Total minutes playable = 5x40 = 200mins. Since 8 pupils, each can play 200/8 = 25mins

I am new to this method and it took a while to figure it out, but now I get it. In the 'old' way, I would have said there are 32-1u 50 cent stamps. Then I would use 50(32-u) + 22u = 1040 and solved that. for u.
