David...there are two parts to it. One to find out how much potatoes are need to make the pies so you need to subtract. Then, the second part is to find out out how much potatoes is used to make each pie. When explaining you probably want to highlight left after making 5 pies and explain what this means. Hope this helps.

For younger children, word problems may be difficult. So it's good to draw models to represent the situation and help with understanding the problem better, especially the relationship between the quantities (710g, 215g, 5 pies). Then it'll also be easier to decide what operations to use to solve. Visualisation is a good process that children should be exposed to.

Initially, we may find it hard to draw the models or we might draw them 'incorrectly' but as with anything else, practising helps us improve. ☺️

This problem is a multi-step one, so all the more children need effective problem solving tools to help them with the process.

Number and Algebra
Dear alli am struck with qns 19ans is 72may i kn how to get the ans?can help me w the working?
Average of A and B = 65
Hence,
Sum of A and B = 65×2
= 130.
Doing the same,
Sum of B and R = 69×2
= 138
Sum of A and R =76×2
= 152.
Adding these three equations together,
Sum of A and B, B and R, A and R = 130+138+152
=420
Sum of 2A,2B,2R=420
Sum of A,B,R= 210
Score of R = 210 - 130
= 80.
