1/3 × 96 = 32cm If 2 triangles r identical, both will hav height = 36cm. Area of 2 triangles = 2 × 1/2 × 96 × 32 = 1 (96 × 32) Area of rectangle = 2 (96 × 32) Shaded area = 1 (96 × 32) = 3072cm2

Hihi, would like to understand why area of the rectangle is 2 (96x32)? Isnt area of rectangle/square is length x breadth? Cheers 😊

Pang Shing Hsiu

2x32= 64 = breadth of e rectangle. I chunk it for easier calculation when u subtract frm area of 2 triangles.

How do we know the breadth of rectangle is 2x32? It is possible that breadth is less than 64, if height of triangle go pass the midway point of breadth of rectangle?

Identical triangles = equal height? No?

Question didn't mention point E and F are mid point of the breadth. Or am I missing out something?

I also don't understand the reasoning for the area of the rectangle.

The reasoning for the height of rectangle does not seem correct. The question never mention height of triangle was midpoint of rectangle height

'k' question?? I have been training my son.in p2 on these type of questions. I feel these questions can help.him build up his model drawing and undeestanding. Just my 2 cents worth of rant

My daughter school practice a lot of this kind question. Common in P2. Teacher won't teach them algebra, but exam accept algebra working.

i use the model to guide him. want him to otally understand the basis of model drawing.

Model drawing is actually algebra. Just replace the x with a box / rectangle. Teaching model drawing in primary schools early is to lay the foundations for the study of algebra later on. It is just meant to show x in pictorial form.
