32= 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2
48= 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3
From here, we can see that the dimensions of V is 4 x 8, while the dimensions of W is 6 x 8.
Dimensions of X = (4+6) x (4+6)
= 10 x 10.
Hence,
Area of X = 10m x 10m
= 100m^2

Total length of wire (going from top left corner of X, in clockwise order)
= 10m + 8m + 4m + 6m + 8m + 10m + 10m
= 56m.

Another possible configuration is U: 2 by 16
V: 3 by 16
This means
X: 5 by 5 = 25cm^2
Such questions usually has a disclaimer clause "the following diagram isn't drawn to scale"
So in solving, we may need to provide all possibilities.

Can we just find the sides based on areas given?

Zhong Shu Hao
Like Raymond Ng has mentioned, there are 2 sets of possibilities.

Not saying that Raymond Ng's working is wrong, but i prefer my ans as my dimensions "LOOKS" more to scale... lol

Like I mentioned, I've seen several schools over the years who, based on the "disclaimer clause", penalise students solutions.
I've witnessed such situations from top schools eg RI/RGS/HCI/DHS/ACSI to neighbourhood schools.
So as a tutor, I usually advocate providing all possibilities as viable solutions, not merely one of the solutions.

Girls 8u, boys 9u. 9u-8u=1u. 1u =100. Total pupils 17u=1700.
