Vera Koh is correct. Thanks

See Yeong's calculations assume that 1 unit of Silver = 1 unit of Gold, which is wrong.

I am actually assuming they are different. thats why i shade the left over in different direction. if the 2 shaded area is one set (which is 106), then there should be 4 sets of the 2 shaded area. so, the 2 remaining box from silver should be 156?

I made mistake as well. Thanks Vera for explanation.

hi see yeong, by assuming that 156 equals 2 units, we are assuming that total for gold (4units) is equivalent to 4units of silver. (which is wat kim soon meant). hope this helps. :)

Thanks Vera Koh. I will try to comprehend. ☺

according to see yeong result, i thought circle 1S and 1G, bal 156 is that two units of 2S? so what is the diff between the ques that wei qiang did for a video on the circle method too? Oh i very confused now. :(

Thanks Kim Soon Chin, I got it now.

Julia, what was the question Wei qiang used as an example in his video? Maybe I can take a look n c the difference. 😉

err. ur 26 pop out from where?

Soo Vei Li

Given that 5/6 of silver balloons burst, it means 5/6 of the units as well as 5/6 of the 156 burst, so 2 units are left, as well as 1/6*156 ( = 26).

Let the length and breadth of the rectangle be 6 units and 4 units. Ratio Area of triangle : area of rectangle = 1/2*3*2 : 6*4 = 3 : 24 = 1 : 8.

The base of the triangle, say AE,, is half the length of the rectangle. The height of the triangle, DF, is also half of the breadth of the rectangle. Let the length of the rectangle be denote by "L" and the breadth of the rectangle be denoted by "B". Area of rectangle = L x B Area of triangle = 1/2 x L/2 x B/2 = 1/2 x 1/2 x L x 1/2 x B = 1/8 x L x B

Doesn't matter what the length and breadth of the rectangle are. I have used numbers which are easy to divide by 2.

Another method by considering what happens to an area when one (or both) of the dimensions is changed: If the base of the triangle is AD and the height is equivalent to CD, the triangle would be half the rectangle. If the base is AD, but the height is half, the area of the triangle would be 1/4 (1/2 of 1/2). If the base and the height are both half of the rectangle, then it is 1/8 (1/2 of 1/4).

The model method is not the only way to solve word problems. I'm sharing an alternative. Hope it helps!Try solving this question.Susan has 41 more 20 cent coins than 50 cent coins. The toal value of the 50 cent coins is $1.70 more than the total value of 20 cent coins.(a) How many 50 cent coins does Susan have?(b) How much does she have altogether? In this video, I will solve the question using the Guess and Check method.
