See Yeong's calculations assume that 1 unit of Silver = 1 unit of Gold, which is wrong.

I am actually assuming they are different. thats why i shade the left over in different direction. if the 2 shaded area is one set (which is 106), then there should be 4 sets of the 2 shaded area. so, the 2 remaining box from silver should be 156?

hi see yeong, by assuming that 156 equals 2 units, we are assuming that total for gold (4units) is equivalent to 4units of silver. (which is wat kim soon meant). hope this helps. :)

Doesn't matter what the length and breadth of the rectangle are. I have used numbers which are easy to divide by 2.

Another method by considering what happens to an area when one (or both) of the dimensions is changed: If the base of the triangle is AD and the height is equivalent to CD, the triangle would be half the rectangle. If the base is AD, but the height is half, the area of the triangle would be 1/4 (1/2 of 1/2). If the base and the height are both half of the rectangle, then it is 1/8 (1/2 of 1/4).
