Reason as to why angle SOR is a right angle, students will learn it in E Math in Secondary 3.

Chia-Chan Bk

The reason why both answers are correct is because the question does not make sense. 0.7^2+0.7^2 = 1^2 is incorrect but the setter thinks so. One uses 0.7 and the other uses 1.

Zhong Shu Hao

Which 0.7?

Zhong Shu Hao

Length of SO and RO is 1m ah. only radius of semi circle SOR is 0.7m

Zhong Shu Hao

Oh... seems like there is a problem with the Q then

Chia-Chan Bk

Your 90 deg need not come from sec 3 knowedge. It is actually from the diagonal of a 0.7 square.

Zhong Shu Hao

but the reasoning used here is from sec 3... O.O

Joey Ang

wow! And this is to be attempted by a P6 student?

How to Q27?

Replies 5

Zhong Shu Hao

Cut into 4 peices means he only cuts 3 time, not 4 times

Zhong Shu Hao

3 cuts requires 12min. 1 cut requires 4 min. 12 peices requires 11 cuts. 11cuts needs 11x4=44min.

Thanks! Silly me, I go divide by pcs 😝

Similar Q include a man running up the staircase from the ground floor to the fifth floor in 20 minuts. How long does he take to run from the third floor to the tenth floor, assuming his speed is constant.

Your method is right (guess and check) but why does your bicycle have 4 wheels?

Zhong Shu Hao

Can be done without guess and check.

Zhong Shu Hao

suppose all are bicycles. that will give 10 wheels, but there are 12 wheels in all actually, which is 2 wheels extra. This is due to the extra wheel each tricycle has. So number of tricycle =2/1=2. Hence number of bicycles =5-2=3.

Can show te method if without guess n check?

Zhong Shu Hao

😁👆

Wendy Tee Yuyong

Thanks... but since I have already use the guess and check idea ... I'll stick to it :) . Thanks for helping

Zhong Shu Hao

Up to you 😊 The supposing method will usually help when the numbers becomes big, as it would be quite hard to start with guess and check.

Shi Ting Ong

You could also use assume method it much more faster because of you use guess and check, during pale you have to show your table very clearly

Be patient.. Working with children with such needs are not easy.. And not everyone can do it.. It's easy to say.. Get a tutor.. But.. Getting the right tutor is the most difficult.. Big brand names may not be suitable and there are many self titled 'experts' who are not even qualified teachers.. Take your time to talk to potential tutors or tuition centres..find out more beefier signing up

Getting the right tutor is one thing. More importantly, you should be setting a schedule for daily learning and setting targets on a daily or weekly basis. By the sound of it, I do not think your kid knows his times table by heart, a common trait in those who fail p4 maths. You may want to start him off memorising his times table and move on to other tasks.

Hi Sock Cheng Wee, Your child may have difficulty remembering, especially new concepts or methods. You may like to request her tutor to keep repeating until she can remember. Less is more for your child. Also, try to focus on section A and B. This will build her foundation and once she has more confident and interest, you can then try giving simple problem sums. Lastly, you are not alone, some parents are facing the same issue. Jiayou...

My child has slight ADHD. Bring her to the playground everyday if you can. They need their energy outlet. Break study time to 30mins each with break. Set a timetable and print it out. Routine is good for them. Discuss the schedule with her. It can be tiring but don't give up on her. They are just slower than their peers but are great kids.

I am not a trained Special Needs Officer. However, I do have experience with children with special needs. I will just offer my humble opinion. 1- children with ADHD cannot be expected to sit for prolonged periods of time. So, after a period of concentration, allow them to do some errands, walk ard etc. 2- They have loads of energy, so, do take them outdoors to give them the opportunity to expend their energy. 3- Slowly inculcate systems in place. come up with a system of when to do work, when to play etc etc. This part is very difficult so patience is required. Many parents have given up on this because they run out of patience. 4- Have a realistic expectation of what your child can achieve academically. Academic improvements can only improve if other issues are successfully addressed so in a sense, this part is going to come last. 5- Memorising of times tables etc is going to be torturous for them. Forcing it upon them is NOT going to help. Find ways to get her to play and learn at the same time. Maybe, counting the 2 times tables why doing hop skotch..get creative and have fun at the same time.. 6- if you need to get external help, first approach the school. THey will be able to refer you to the relevant agencies that can offer help and strategies to help. 7- BE VERY CAREFUL with getting tutors. Many are not trained teachers and many do not have the experience of handling children with special needs.

Lately I have encountered a few kids with ADHD. One common observation is that they are more calm and able to focus for a longer span after they had some form of sports, eg. Ballet and swimming. They just need to " release their energy" before they can sit down and do their work. Routine is important. Encouragement of their effort is even more important, be it whether 5 mins or 20 mins. Many students at upper pri struggle cos they may even have problems with simple calculation like addition or subtraction. Many kids have issues with word problems cos they do have have the language ability or even the patience to "decode" the problems. Hence my personal view is to understand how the child view the questions and work from there. Lastly, don't just focus on the child's weaknesses. Find out what his/her strengths are too.

Yani June

Hi Linda, my gal is not ADHD. Just now she is a slow learner in Maths and tend to forget what she had learnt. I can see she really dislikes Maths

Linda Tan

Hi Yani June, sorry...misunderstood.😶 however, I can fully understand your situation. In most cases, the first thing to take note is Confidence. Try working on that. Have seen handful of kids who dun like Maths. Observed that these kids (at P2/P3, even P4) use fingers to do simple addition and subtraction. Also important to check if they have memorised multiplication tables effectively. If you don't mind you can PM me and let me know in more detail your gal's learning situation. Will be happy to help if I can.

First you have to know which topic ur kid is weak in and tackle the weak topic. Redo Test papers that school tested them. From there pick those sums that she don't know and go through with them and solve the sums together with them. Is not that he/she don't know or never do it before, it's more on he/shedon't understand the concept clearly. Once they are able to capture the concept of the sums they will have the confidence to attempt to other questions.

Yani June

Agree. ..I am revising her weak topics with her again

Yani June esp word problem sometimes they will misunderstood the meaning and attempt to do it wrongly. Highlight to your gal the words and meaning which step or method to be use.

Totally agree. I even drawn graphics to explain the word problems

Yani June my girl also P3 this year I took few days and few hours before exam to sit down with my girl to explain to her each and every single sums until she understands. We got to be very very very patient.

For almost four years, I am watching a child in similar case with your child. The child is a girl and she never lets herself to be alone. She likes playing games and adventures too. While playing with other kids, she always considers herself to their leader. I find that she is a stubborn girl too. She never lets other people talk to her if she makes a mistake. Of course, as a parent, you must be able to talk to her. PATIENTLY! I found that her parents was suddenly stopping give an attention to her. Don't let your child like this. I suggested you and your child to an experienced psychologist. Listen to what the psychologist will talk. Nevertheless, be patient to your child because your child, actually also from what I experienced, is a gifted child. Well, every child is very amazing. I believe God creates so. Behold! I am a student of Mathematics Ed., so in my spare time, I teach the girl Simple Mathematics. I tell you something! She is great in Math. I even didn't believe that she can learn faster. I believe your child too. The main problem is... Your attention and the way you teach your child.
