So 2/5, which is also 4/10 of the book consists of 18 more pages than 1/10 of the book. So 3/10 of the book consists of 18 pages. 1/10 of the book consists of 6 pages. Thus, the book consists of 6x10=60 pages.

Can still use model as the remainder is easily divisible by 6. If not then branching method is more suitable

We can draw a model to represent the problem. Questions to ask are:
How many units represent the book (5)? How many units represent the remainder (3)?
How can we show 1/6 in the 3 units? (subdivide each unit into 2 smaller units).
Once the model has been drawn and subdivided units shown for the whole book (total of 10), we can compare Friday (4) and Saturday (1) to equate a number of units to 18.

As seen, the diff between K and J is K has 1 extra unit of "left" while J has 3 extra unit of "gave".
Zhong Shu Hao
nevertheless, J has $600 less than K. So we know that one unit of "left" is equal to 3 units of "gave" + $600.
Zhong Shu Hao
So if we were to replace (formal term is substitute) all the "left" with 3"gave"+$600...
Zhong Shu Hao
K will have 7units of "gave"+$1200. J will have 7 units of "gave"+$600.
So, 14 "gave" +$1800=$7960.
Zhong Shu Hao
hence, 1 unit of "gave"=$6160÷14= $440.
Zhong Shu Hao
And for part b, K will have more than J by 1"left", which is 3"gave"+$600=$1920. (Thats a lot of $$$ XD)

hi! i find this problem to be very nice.. i'll try to answer..
960 stickers - 750 stickers = 210 stickers.
210 stickers is the total number of stickers Cathy and Don gave away which is equivalent to 25% of their total. The total number of stickers that Cathy and Don had must be 210 x 4 (25% x 4 = 100%) or 840.
Since 960 is the total number of stickers, subtract the total of Cathy and Don, 960 - 840 = 120. 120 is the number of stickers Ethan had.
Since the ratio of Cathy's stickers to Ethan's stickers is 1 : 3, 3 units is equal to 120 which means a unit is 40. Cathy had 40 stickers at first.
Don and Cathy had a total of 840 stickers, 40 of which was Cathy's thus, Don had 800 stickers at first. Since he gave 25% of them, he is left with 75% of 800 which is 600 stickers.
Hope this helps. :)

A little more challenging. Part of the problem with this question is not knowing how to start. So just starting putting down the information - here I just arbitrary chose to include parts for Don in my at first ratio.

Using logical reasoning method, the amount of $$$ Sarah has is a multiple of both $22 and $18. Lowest Common Multiple (LCM) of $22 and $18 is $198.

Then, using guess and check, use multiples of $198, ie $198, $396,$594.... Find the amount of money Johari has.

This is a gap & difference type of question. When comparing two ratios or two models we need to find something to compare or something that is constant. In this case the amount of money Sarah spent is the same. Therefore we can make Sarah's units in both Cases (ratios) the same. Then compare the units for Johari. Note: Missing a step. 1u comes from 55u - 54u.
